Plenty of people have said in the past that it is impossible to run half-life and associated games on a mac under OSX.

This is complete fiction as I quite happily play half-life on my Mac Under OSX.

All you need to make this work is an Intel Mac, and a wonderful piece of software that I have used in the past on Linux systems to run windows apps.

The software is called CrossOver Mac, which is basically a nice front-end for Wine with installer capabilities.

I can confirm that I have played the following games perfectly normally on my mac mini under crossover:

  • Half-Life
  • Opposing Force
  • Blue Shift
  • Team Fortress Classic
  • Counter Strike

Games I've yet to test are the later source series and half-life 2 but I will post back when I have run them up.

I am yet to try Cider but from what Ive been told thats supposed to run windows games far better.
